Aatm Sukoon

It started with meals. It did not stop there.

Aatm Sukoon began in the middle of the pandemic, when three colleagues decided to do something useful with a bad year. It has not stopped since.

Not a campaign. A habit.

The Aatm Sukoon emblem
Early days: the donate box, packing at home, ration bags, meal trays, gratitude boxes for hospital staff and refreshments for police on the street
How it started

A kitchen,and a list of names.

In 2020 the hospitals were full and families were stranded. We started cooking at home and carrying fresh meals to patients and to the people sitting outside with them, so that nobody had to get through those days hungry and alone.

It ran on the three of us. Nived took the bookings online and worked out who needed what, and where it had to reach. Neetu cooked, every day, for however many names were on the list that morning. Lubna packed the boxes and got them ready to travel. Before long our families were in the kitchen too, and our children were packing boxes as well. It stopped being a thing we did and became a thing our households did.

It grew as it went. We put together gratitude boxes for the doctors inside the hospitals, and we stood out on the streets with refreshments for the police who could not go home either.

That was meant to be the whole of it. It turned out to be the beginning.

What we do

Four things,done again and again.

These are simple things. What makes them count is doing them again, and then again the year after.

A bowl of food
01

Warm meals

Fresh and home cooked, carried to patients and to the families waiting with them. Where we started, and still part of what we do.

Folded blankets
02

Blankets, every winter

Distributed each winter without fail. It is not clever work. It simply has to happen, and it has to happen every single year.

An open book and a ball
03

Teaching, and playing

In villages we teach children, and we bring sports equipment so that they have something to play with. Both matter. One is not a reward for the other.

A home with a heart
04

Time at old age homes

Essential donations, and hours spent sitting with people who were mostly short of company.

The three of us

We met at work. The rest followed.

What we had in common was not a plan. It was a life purpose each of us recognised in the other two, and the feeling that we could be doing something with our time that mattered to somebody other than ourselves.

Come and help,or tell us where to go.

Aatm Sukoon is not a service and it is not a campaign. It is three families keeping a promise the three of us made in a hard year, and keeping it in small ways, often. If you would like to help, or if you know someone who needs help, write to us.
